The future of Antarctica lies at the heart of mankind's attempts to address global warming.  It's simple - if we lose the battle in Antarctica, we've lost the war.

But to school children, the future environmentalists, the continent remains largely an unknown and little-understood place.  With a lack of permanent human habitation it rarely features in curriculums and gains fleeting awareness only through wildlife documentaries and exploration.

At Last Great Challenge we believe that a key to creating informed concern about global warming from children lies through wide-spread education about Antarctica.  Using the excitement and uniqueness of the expedition as a catalyst we are launching, with the support of our sponsors, a comprehensive Antarctic educational program for schools.

Example topics include the geography, climate, wildlife and history of Antarctica as well as the physiological, psychological, nutritional, navigational and survival issues at the heart of an Antarctic expedition.

Lesson plans based upon the UK national curriculum will be available to participating schools.  If you are interested in making use of these facilities. please contact us to discuss.

We are actively looking for assistance to ensure the educational programme is of the highest quality and reaches the greatest number of children.  Offers of support - of expertise, services or funding, will be especially welcome.
