Previous Expedition

In November 2006, John set out to walk the 700 miles from the coast of Antarctica to the South Pole, alone and unsupported.
The Expedition, under the name Don't Just Dream, created worldwide interest and John's humorous daily dispatches to the website attracted an ever-increasing audience of armchair explorers. You can link to the website here, and the daily dispatches can be read here.
"Failure plays an important part in Polar travel. It ups your game for the next attempt. There are simply too many challenges to conquer to expect to succeed on a first. The majority of extreme adventurers only succeeded having served their apprenticeship of failure and only then are they able to push out the boundaries, to go beyond the accepted capabilities of human endurance." Diary
"For scientific leadership, give me Scott; for swift and efficient travel, Amundsen; but when you are in a hopeless situation, when there seems to be no way out, get on your knees and pray for Shackleton."
Sir Raymond Priestley
